Galway clinched their fifth Walsh Cup title this afternoon thanks to a penalty shootout victory over Dublin.

The scoreboard read 2-13 to 1-16 at full-time Parnell Park, where the game went straight to penalties afterwards with the Tribesmen recording a 2-1 win for their first success in this pre-season competition since 2023.

In what was an entertaining decider in the capital, the sides were all square on 0-5 apiece when Ollie Gaffney netted the game’s first goal for the hosts on 17 minutes.

Declan McLoughlin helped to bring Galway level after that and Evan Niland (free) nudged them in front as they moved towards a 0-11 to 1-7 half-time lead.

Dublin had their second goal of the day through a Donal Burke penalty early in the restart, but Micheál Donoghue’s side would cancel out with a Conor Whelan major in the 37th minute at to hit the front again.

Burke (free) and Cian O’Sullivan sailed over scores at the other end and Conor Groarke eventually levelled the sides ahead of Conor Donohoe putting Dublin up by one in injury-time.

There’d still time for Conor Cooney (free) to send the game to penalties however, with Galway emerging victorious from the shootout as Ciaran Leen and Colm Molloy netted to secure some early silverware for 2026.
