
Holders Roscommon cruised to an emphatic 5-17 to 0-14 win over Leitrim in the teams’ first outing in the Connacht FBD Football League this afternoon.
With the game’s original venue in Elphin deemed unplayable due to a frozen pitch, this clash moved to the Connacht Centre of Excellence where new Rossies boss Mark O’Dowd got his reign off to a winning start.
The 2024 champions (this competition wasn’t played last year) saw early goals from Cian McKeon and Diarmuid Murtagh settling them in ahead of more majors from ack Tumulty and Murtagh ushering them towards a commanding 4-10 to 0-8 half-time lead.

Tom Prior and Mark Diffley pulled back a couple of points for Leitrim after the change of ends, but another goal towards the end via Oisin Cregg would see Roscommon on their way to an 18-point victory in the end.
The earlier game at the Bekan venue saw London and Sligo playing out a 1-11 to 0-14 draw.
The Yeats men, who played against Mayo yesterday, needed a Niall Murphy free with the last kick of the game to avoid defeat to the Exiles for whom Shay Rafter registered 1-6 over the hour.
