Clare commenced 2026 with a 3-20 to 3-18 win against Limerick this afternoon in the opening round of the Munster Hurling League.

The sides had been all square on 0-6 each in Tulla when Shane Meehan hammered in the game’s first goal in the 12th minute, and while Limerick would hit back with one from Donnacha Ó Dálaigh, it was the home side that went on towards a 1-12 to 1-10 lead at the interval.

Ó Dálaigh and Jack Kirwan traded goals early in the restart ahead of Fintan Fitzgerald raising the umpire’s green flag on 39 minutes, but the Banner men pushed on in the closing quarter with Mark Rodgers and Peter Duggan sailing over points prior to Rodgers netting a late penalty which sealed their opening win.

The day’s other clash in this pre-season competition down south between Tipperary and Waterford saw a change of time and venue from Clonmel Sportsfield to Fethard due to an unplayable pitch in the former.

In the end, there’d be nothing to separate the sides as it finished 1-18 apiece, with Jack Leamy’s free on the hour mark earning a share of the points for the Premier men in their first competitive outing since last July’s All-Ireland SHC final triumph over Cork.
