A record five Irish players have been named in this year’s All-Australian AFLW team.
Bláthín Bogue (North Melbourne and Fermanagh), Aíne McDonagh (Hawthorn and Galway), Jennifer Dunne (Brisbane Lions and Dublin), Niamh McLaughlin (Gold Coasts SUNS and Donegal) and Dayna Hill (Mayo and Carlton Blues) were named on the 21-strong team at the W Awards night in Melbourne on Monday. It’s the largest Irish representation since Tipperary’s Orla O'Dwyer was the first to be named in 2022.
The team was announced ahead of this weekend's AFLW Grand Final which pits Bogue’s North Melbourne and Dunne’s Brisbane Lions against each other. Last year, Aisling McCarthy (Fremantle Dockers), Aishling Moloney (Geelong Cats), Aleen Gilroy and Áine McDonagh (both Hawthorn) were the Irish players selected.
