Russell stars as Eire Og find extra gear against Loughmore-Castleiney for Munster final berth

Eire Og Ennis will play Ballygunner in the Munster club senior hurling championship final in a fortnight’s time after finding an extra gear to overcome Loughmore-Castleiney this afternoon.

It finished 2-20 to 1-16 in Sixmilebridge, where a late free from the outstanding Danny Russell (1-14) forced extra time for the Clare champions who kicked on for a seven-point win in the end.

Liam McGrath’s goal had given Loughmore a 1-4 to 0-6 lead at half-time before the hosts hit the front again through Russell’s goal in the 41st minute.

Point by John McGrath and John Ryan at the other end got it level and Tipperary champions looked set to kick on the for the win with two more from McGrath until Russell’s late intervention.

After going in at the short break 1-17 to 1-16 ahead, the second-half of extra saw the Ennis men dominated as Tom Kavanagh and Rian Mulcahy extended their advantage to three prior to Darren Moroney’s goal sealing their final berth.
