Cluainin Iomaint ended Carrick’s hopes of a fourth Leitrim senior hurling championship title in-a-row thanks to a 2-10 to 1-10 victory at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada this afternoon.
Gavin O’Hagan’s goal in the 44th minute was what proved the difference between in the end in what was these two clubs’ 10th consecutive county SHC final meeting.
Beaten in the last three deciders, the men from Glencar/Manorhamilton netted an early goal in this one but would still trail the holders at half-time (1-7 to 1-6).
‘Man of the Match’ Martin Feeney struck an early point in the second-half to bring the sides level and O’Hagan’s goal would see Cluainin Iomaint surging in front heading into the closing quarter of an hour in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The victors kept their noses in front until the finish, with Michael O’Brien’s point in the 55th minute rounding off their winning tally as they collected their fifth Leitrim SHC success.
