St Martin’s made their goals count in a 2-14 to 0-16 win against Rathnure St Anne’s at Chadwicks Wexford Park this afternoon to claim a sixth Wexford senior hurling championship success.

Up by two points, Barry O’Connor buried in this decider’s decisive goal in the 56th minute as the Piercestown club triumphed to back-to-back Dr RJ Bowe Cups.

20-time champions Rathnure had been the better team in the first-half, taking in a deserved 0-9 to 0-8 lead at the break with the help of points from Jack Redmond and Rory Higgins.

St Martin’s ended the first-half in decent fashion and would have the sliotar in their opponents’ net seven minutes into the restart thanks to Mikey Coleman.

Sean O’Connor sent Rathnure back up by two points, but the Saints were gathering momentum and got in front after points from Jack O’Connor (2) and Diarmuid O’Leary sailed over.

Jack O’Connor’s long range free put two between the sides ahead of Barry O’Connor latching on to a puck-out and racing forward to drill in a second goal for St Martin’s.

Redmond pulled back a free for Rathnure, but they couldn’t get the scores they needed in the closing stages as St Martin’s triumphed with a four-point victory in the end.
