Loughmore-Castleiney retained the Tipperary senior hurling championship title for the first time in their history by defeating Nenagh Eire Óg on 2-22 to 1-22 scoreline in Thurles.
Liam McGrath’s 48th minute goal proved a hammer blow to Nenagh, as the holders went on to stretch their lead to six points afterwards and hold off their opponents spirited push in the closing stages.
A thrilling final saw points from Noel McGrath, Ciaran McCormack and Ciaran Connolly help Loughmore to edge a 0-13 to 0-10 lead at the halfway stage, with Nenagh narrowing their deficit back down to a single point in the first two minutes of the resumption before conceding the game’s first goal.

It came from a John McGrath free in the 33rd minute and Nenagh needed to dig deep afterwards to send over four points and then find the net through Tommy Heffernan’s long range free, making it 1-15 apiece.
The sides swapped two points each in the run up to McGrath’s crucial goal with a dozen minutes remaining and, from there, the points of Noel, John, Liam and Tomás McGrath, along with another form Ed Meagher served to put a seal Loughmore’s sixth Dan Breen Cup triumph.
