Madden Raparees have been crowned Armagh senior football champions for first time after delivering a brilliant 0-20 to 0-9 victory over Cullyhanna at the Box-It Athletic Grounds this afternoon.
This novel final in the Orchard County saw both clubs bidding for an inaugural Gerry Fagan Cup success and it was Madden that made a sizzling start with Conor Grimley, who finished with 0-8, to the fore for them.
A crucial juncture in the game saw Grimley shooting over the first of six unaswered scores for the would-be winners, with Ciaran Rafferty, Donal Rafferty, Niall Smith and Joe Sheridan all getting in on the act as their side carried in a 0-10 to 0-4 advantage at the half.
Armagh star Ross McQuillan sent over the first score of the restart for Cullyhanna and would add another prior to Shea Hoey’s point making it a one score game again.
Madden got motoring again however, with Ciaran Rafferty’s point halting their opponents run and the closing quarter would see points from Sheridan and Aron McKenna being backed up by a Grimley two-pointer as they went on to seal their club’s maiden SFC success with an 11-point win in the end.
