Scotstown are Monaghan senior football champions for the 10th time in 13 years thanks to a 0-22 to 0-17 extra time win over Inniskeen in Clones this afternoon.
A late Andrew Woods free denied David McCague’s side the win in normal time, but they outscore their opponents by 0-7 to 0-2 in the added periods at St Tiernach’s Park to triumph to their club’s 24th Mick Duffy Cup success.
Tommy Mallen’s scores late in the first-half of normal time saw the holders going in with a 0-10 to 0-6 lead at half-time, but Inniskeen got back on level terms by the 48th minute with the help of scores from Woods and Michael Monahan.
Two points from Shane Carey (one free) pushed Scotstown back in front ahead of a Conor Jones two-pointer at the other end and Mallen and Woods (free) swapping points in the closing minutes of normal time.
