Moycullen clinched their third Galway senior football championship title tonight by edging out Salthill-Knocknacarra on a 1-17 to 1-15 scoreline at Pearse Stadium.

Late scores from Dessie Conneely (a two-point free) and ‘Man of the Match’ Sean Kelly saw the victors over the line in the end as they claimed the Frank Fox Cup for the first time since 2022.

Kelly’s goal after 55 seconds gave Moycullen the perfect start to the county final in Salthill and they’d lead until their opponents were awarded a penalty which Galway ace Rob Finnerty dispatched in the 23rd minute to make it 1-5 apiece.

Moycullen hit back with a couple of Peter Cooke two-pointers and singles from Kelly and Conneely to move towards a 1-11 to 1-6 half-time advantage.

Finnerty led the charge for Salthill-Knocknacarra after the change of ends however, cutting their deficit to two and then landing a brilliant score from beyond the arc which had the scoreboard reading 1-13 to 1-13.

Defeated by the same opposition on the same stage three years ago, Salthill were looking to avoid a third county final loss in nine years and hit the front through Robert Walzer’s point before Conneely levelled and sent over a two-pointer down the home stretch.

A Finnerty free made it a one-point game before the superb Kelly drove forward again to ensure the win for Moycullen in injury-time.
