Dunloy are Antrim senior football champions for the first time since 1936 after an impressive 3-12 to 2-8 victory over holders Cargin at Corrigan Park this afternoon.

The victors were 0-5 to 0-2 in front when Luke McFerran struck their first goal on 21 minutes, with Cargin pulling back a major of their own just before half-time to leave it at 1-5 to 1-3 when the sides went in.

Bidding for their fourth consecutive county SFC crown, Cargin trimmed their deficit to the minimum with a Conhuir Johnston point in the opening minute of the restart but their net would be rattled again in the next attack.

Nigel Elliott provided the cool finish for Dunloy this time and the men from Pearse Park wouldn’t look back from the moment Seaan Elliott converted a penalty for them in the 41st minute.

The same player sent over a two-pointer to increase the lead to 3-9 to 1-4, with Michael McCann’s penalty at the other end proving only consolation for the defending champions as Dunloy claimed a famous seven-point victory in west Belfast.
