Longford Slashers captured their first county senior hurling championship title in four years thanks to a 1-16 to 0-15 win over Wolfe Tones on Saturday.
Micheál Mulcahy’s goal saw the Slashers with the upper hand in this replay decider at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, where they went on to hold 1-9 to 0-5 lead at the break.
Wolfe Tones made a marked improvement after the change of ends and managed to get themselves back within touching distance.
However, The Townies were able to see out the win with John Murray giving an exhibition from right half-back which earned him the decider’s Man of the Match award.
