Rathmore sprung a major upset against title favourites East Kerry this afternoon to reach the semi-finals of the Kerry senior football championship.
The emphatic 1-21 to 0-9 victory at Fitzgerald Stadium saw Mark Ryan striking the game’s only goal for the winners during the first-half as they edged a 1-6 to 0-7 lead at half-time.
While David Clifford chipped in with 0-5 over the hour for East Kerry, it was Rathmore that put their foot on the throttle in the second-half to outscore their opponents by 0-15 to 0-2 with Ciaran Collins (0-6) and Paul Murphy (0-3) leading the charge for them.

The day’s later SFC game in the Kingdom saw Austin Stacks seal their place in the last four with a 1-19 to 0-15 win against Kenmare Shamrocks at the Killarney ground.
Stacks were 0-7 to 0-6 in front when Cian Purcell fired in their goal in the 22nd minute and the points of Ben Murphy, Purcell and Joe O’Connor sent them in with a 1-10 to 0-9 advantage at the interval.
Sean O’Shea’s frees helped trim Kenmare’s deficit down to two but the scores of O’Connor, Paddy Lane and Ronan Carroll at the other end increased the Tralee men’s lead again as they won out by six in the end.
