Seamus Sweeney’s goal in injury-time proved the difference as Éire Óg Carrickmore defeated Eoghan Ruadh in this afternoon’s Tyrone senior hurling championship final.
The 2-15 to 0-18 victory at O’Neills Healy Park marks a sixth consecutive county SHC triumph for Carrickmore as they extended their title count at the top of the roll of honour list to 32.
Defeated on this same stage by the same opposition 12 months ago, Eoghan Ruadh put together a strong first-half performance to try and tear up the script on their opponents.
Last year’s runners up made a decent start and saw points from Mickey Little (2), Cain Ferguson and Fergal Donaghy move them towards a 0-11 to 0-7 lead at half-time.
The points of Aidan Kelly helped Carrickmore to eventually close the gap to one by the midway stage of the second-half and they’d hit the front with a goal in their next attack.
Eoghan Ruadh squared things up again and went into the lead via Ferguson before Dermot Begley and Turlough Mullin exchanged points. Shea Munroe’s pointed looked to have the game headed for extra time until Sweeney’s late intervention for the holders broke Eoghan Ruadh’s hearts.
