Colmcille will contest their third Longford senior football championship final in four years after dealing Clonguish a 2-11 to 1-10 defeat at the semi-final stage this evening.

Goals from Cathal McCabe and Eoin Hawkins made the difference for Ger Carberry’s men as the knocked out the competition’s favourites with a four-point win at Pearse Park and returned to the same stage where they lost out to Abbeylara after extra time 12 months ago.

Colmcille registered the first two points of the game ahead of Jack Duggan’s goal surging Clonguish in front in the third minute and they’d go on to grow their lead to five points.

McCabe grabbed a crucial goal for last year’s runners up after that, leaving the scoreboard to read 1-8 to 1-6 when the sides went in at the break.

The second-half saw Colmcille racing out of the traps as Barry McKeon sailed over a free and backed it up with a two-pointer and Jack Macken would double their advantage.

Clonguish responded with a Matthew Carey point but they’d be rocked by another goal with seven minutes remaining, with Hawkins providing the finish this time as Colmcille saw out a famous win which sees them into the county final on October 12th against tomorrow winners between Killoe and Rathcline (2pm).
