Waterford are All-Ireland minor hurling champions for the first time in a dozen years after seeing off Clare with an impressive 1-18 to 0-10 victory in Thurles this evening.
James O’Connor’s team made the perfect start at Semple Stadium and never looked back, with Pierce Quann’s goal in the opening minute being followed up by the points of Cormac Spain (free), Shane Power and Eanna McHugh.

Clare pulled points back through Paul Rodgers (free), Ben Talty and Liam Murphy, but it was the Deise lads that went on to dominate the second quarter as five points from talisman Spain and a Gearoid O’Shea single steered them towards a commanding 1-12 to 0-5 half-time lead.
The Banner lads started the second-half in better fashion, sailing over unanswered points via John Barry (2, 1free) and Ian O’Brien, but Spain got Waterford motoring again with his eighth white flag of the day and Power would add another as nine points separated the sides in the closing quarter.
Barry (free) and Darragh Murrihy shot the last two points of the evening for Clare, as they fell 11 short in the end, with O’Connor’s side going on to record their county’s fourth even Irish Press Cup success.
