The Kerry SHC has been in full swing for the past couple of weeks and 2023 winners Crotta O’Neill’s have already exited the race following a 1-18 to 1-20 defeat to last year’s runners-up Ballyduff last weekend.
Needing to win after their narrow first round loss to St Brendan’s, Crotta led by 0-12 to 0-8 at half-time, but Ballyduff had regained parity by the end of the third quarter. It remained deadlocked with time running out before an unanswered 1-2 – the goal coming from a Padraig Boyle free – ultimately got Ballyduff across the line. Shane Nolan also netted from a free in the final minute, but it was a case of too little, too late for Crotta.
Meanwhile, an Oisín O’Brien goal in the third minute of stoppage-time earned Tralee Parnells an unlikely 4-10 to 1-19 draw with Causeway after they had trailed by 11 points at one stage.
