Donegal star Ciaran Thompson is set to make his 50th senior championship appearance when the Ulster champions welcome Louth to Ballybofey this weekend.

Thompson’s championship debut for the Tir Chonaill men came back in 2016 when he was brought on as a substitute in the All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Dublin.

The Naomh Conaill clubman has featured in all of his county’s championship outings since the six-point loss to the Dubs at Croke Park that day.

Sunday’s knockout clash is set to see him playing his 50th SFC game when the Leinster champions come to MacCumhaill Park (throw-in 4pm), while midfielder Michael Langan is in line to make his 99th senior appearance in the same game.

Ciaran Moore’s point at the death gave Jim McGuinness’s team a 0-19 to 1-15 victory over Mayo last Sunday in Tullamore at Dr Hyde Park, giving them a second placed finish in Group 1 while the Westerners were shown the exit door.
