A powerful first half performance from Galway saw them put Mayo to the sword in the TG4 Connacht SFC at Tuam Stadium in a contest which was essentially decided by half-time.

This dead rubber Connacht championship game was largely one-sided, ahead of a meeting between the same two sides in the provincial final in two weeks.

Mayo fell 0-4 to 0-0 behind in the opening quarter, with Ailbhe Davoren, Kate Slevin (free), Shauna Hynes, and Eva Noone pointing for the Tribeswomen.

Slevin then capitalised on a loose Mayo kick out to score Galway’s opening goal. Mayo finally got off the mark when Sinéad Walsh pointed two in a row (one free), before Galway scored 1-4 without reply.

Hannah Noone, Davoren, Kate Thompson, and Slevin added Galway points, while Aisling Madden finished off a well worked move to fire to the net for their second goal.

Walsh (free) and Leanne Coen exchanged points at either end, before the visitors finished with the final two scores of the half, coming from Walsh (free) and Ava McDonnell.

Galway had a healthy 2-9 to 0-5 lead at the interval and traded 0-4 apiece with the visitors in the second half. Hynes, Siobhán Divilly, Madden, and Andrea Trill added to their tally, while Ciara Whyte and Walsh (three frees) kept the scoreboard ticking for Mayo, as the contest petered out.
