Cathal Mannion struck 0-17 as Galway picked up their second win in the Leinster senior hurling championship at Wexford’s expense this afternoon.
The 1-29 to 2-16 victory at Pearse Stadium was an important one for hosts as they stay in the hunt for Bob O’Keeffe Cup honours with clashes against Antrim (home) and Dublin (away) to come over the next fortnight.
The Tribesmen held a 0-15 to 0-11 lead at half-time and stretched it out to five early in the restart before Cathal Dunbar grabbed a sorely needed Wexford goal.
Mannion sent over the next three points for Micheál Donoghue’s charges and the centre-forward would raise his team’s tally to 0-22 prior to Rory O’Connor and Richie Lawlor combing to set-up Rory O’Connor for the net at the other end.
The points of John Fleming and Cianán Fahy settled any Galway nerves and more from Mannion would be backed up by a late Conor Cooney goal to settle the issue for the home side.
