Emmet Walsh and Rowan McMahon struck early goals as Monaghan saw off Leitrim by 2-13 to 0-9 in their opening round Lory Meagher Cup clash in Inniskeen this afternoon.
Both of the Farney men’s goals came inside the opening eight minutes at Grattan Park, where they went on towards a 2-7 to 0-7 lead at half-time.
The hosts’ defence would hold their opponents to just two points in the second-half, with points from Niall Arthur and Niall Garland helping their team to a 10-point victory in the end.

Diarmuid Cahill’s charges kept their cushioned lead through the second-half before Martin Farrell struck a brace of goals late on to cement the 17-point win.
