Down progressed to an Ulster U20 football championship quarter-final against Cavan next week thanks to a 2-18 to 3-9 win over Fermanagh last night.
An airtight opening half in Tempo saw the sides honours even at half-time (1-7 to 1-7), with Oisin Swift having struck the hosts’ goal in the 11th minute ahead of Ruairí Madine responding in kind for the Mourne lads four minutes later.
The second-half saw the hosts’ outscoring their opponents by 0-7 to 0-0 ahead of Lorcan Ward firing in their second goal in the 45th minute.
Barry Goodwin’s goal was Fermanagh’s first score of the second-half in the 53rd minutes, making it 2-16 to 2-7, and he’d grab another late on which proved consolation for the Ernesiders.
The result means Down now move on to a quarter-final date against Cavan on Wednesday, April 16th, at Kingspan Breffni (throw-in 7.30pm).
