Waterford are Allianz Hurling League Division 1B champions after recording a 1-27 to 2-20 victory over Offaly at Pairc Ui Chaoimh this afternoon.
Peter Queally’s side dominated in the first-half, running up a 0-12 to 0-4 lead inside 20 minutes prior to the points of Patrick Curran, Stephen Bennett and Darragh Lyons leaving 11 points in it come half-time.
Mark Fitzgerald and Bennett shot scores after the change of ends that made it 0-20 to 0-7 in the Deise men’s favour and a Bennett ‘65’ would put 14 points between the teams before Oisin Kelly grabbed a sorely needed goal for Offaly in the 51st minute.
Curran’s goal at the other end two minutes later wiped out that strike, but Kelly would have the sliotar in the Munster side’s net again in the 55th minute.
Eight unaswered points, including four from Brian Duignan, followed for the Faithful men before Curran sailed another over for Waterford and skipper Dessie Hutchinson completed their tally a minute before injury-time as they claimed the silverware with a four-point win in the end.
