Mayo inflicted London’s first defeat of this year’s Allianz Hurling League campaign this afternoon to capture the Division 3 title.
The Westerners recorded a 0-14 to 1-8 victory at Manguard Park, Hawkfield, where Shane Boland led the way for the victors with 0-7 (4f) while Liam Lavin chipped in with 0-3 from play.
London struck their goal midway through the first-half via Conor O’Carroll and held a 1-5 to 0-4 lead at the interval.
Cormac Philips, Lavin (2) and Boland struck the first four scores of the restart to level matters by the 50th minute and Boland free a minute later saw Mayo hitting the front again.
David Devine squared things up for the Exiles but it was Ray Larkin’s men that dominated the closing quarter, with the points of Boland (two frees), Eoin Delaney and Lavin securing their team’s league honours.
