Dublin put themselves in contention for a return to the Allianz Football League Division 1 final after earning a 2-19 to 2-13 win over a wasteful Galway side at Croke Park tonight.
The heavyweight clash in the capital saw 43-year-old goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton starting between the posts in his seasonal debut for the Leinster champions as they went on to pick up their fourth win of the league campaign.
Dessie Farrell’s side held a 0-3 to 0-2 lead when Sean Bugler fired in the first of his two goals in the 12th minute and, from there, they’d move towards a 1-10 to 0-6 interval lead.

Bugler would repeat the trick for the Dubs 12 minutes into the second-half, making it a 10-point game (2-13 to 0-9), before Galway pulled back a sorely needed goal when John Maher saw his effort deflected into the net.
Some six minutes later and Damien Comer would have the ball in the back of Dublin’s net again with a thunderbolt that gave Cluxton no chance, leaving two points between the sides.
Farrell’s men regrouped and got points back via a Cormac Costello ‘45’ and scores from Killian McGinnis and Ross McGarry which steadied the ship ahead of Lorcan O’Dell and Con O’Callaghan sailing over late on to put a seal on their side’s victory.
