Kildare took a step closer towards promotion from Division 2 of the Allianz Hurling League after an emphatic 2-33 to 0-8 victory over Tyrone in Newbridge this afternoon.
Jack Sheridan led the way with 1-5 for the hosts while Muiris Curtin struck 1-3 from play as the Lilywhites cruised to their fourth win in five games to join Down at the top of the table on eight points.
The scoreboard read 0-12 to 0-3 when Curtin lashed in Kildare’s first goal in the 18th minute and, after taking in a 20-point lead at half-time, Brian Dowling’s men would goal again via Sheridan in the 44th minute on the way to a 31-point win.
Meanwhile, Derry boosted their Division 2 survival hopes by defeating Meath on a 1-27 to 1-23 scoreline at Celtic Park.
Christy McNaughton’s penalty helped the Oak Leafers on their way to a 1-16 to 1-9 lead at half-time, with Mikey Cole having bagged the visitors’ goal in the 20th minute.
Meath would trim their deficit down to four points after the change of ends, but the hosts were able to keep their noses in front as Cormac O’Doherty came off the bench to make his first of the season for them in the closing quarter.
