Liam O’Brien, from Thomas Davis GFC/Craobh Rua Camlocha in Co. Armagh, is the overall winner of the Translink Ulster GAA Young Volunteer of the Year Award for 2024.

Now in its eighth year, the award is an initiative designed to celebrate the important contribution young members of the association make to their clubs and communities.

Each month during the year, clubs were invited to nominate youth volunteers who play important roles in areas such as coaching, mentoring, fundraising, and organising social activities.

Liam, who won the August award, was ultimately selected as the overall winner in recognition of the massive contribution he makes to the GAA, putting in many hours of volunteering each week across underage coaching, umpiring, administration, facilities maintenance and fundraising, as well as representing Thomas Davis as a County Board Delegate.

Last summer Liam was also selected to participate in the Ulster GAA Young Leaders Programme, an exciting and innovative programme aimed at young GAA members to build their skills and knowledge to help them become leaders in their clubs.

His prize package includes a full set of underage jerseys for his club, as well as commemorative merchandise and trophy.

Ulster GAA President, Michael Geoghegan said: "Liam epitomises all that is good within the GAA, and his sterling volunteering efforts are an absolute credit to himself and his family.

“He really showcases the huge impact young volunteers can make within the GAA, both within their clubs and counties, and is a very worthy recipient of the overall award.”
