Tipperary moved two points clear at the top of the Allianz Hurling League Division 1A table after inflicting Cork with their first defeat of the campaign tonight in Thurles.
Liam Cahill’s men clinched a 2-22 to 1-21 victory at FBD Semple Stadium, where Dylan Walsh’s goal midway through the second-half put them on the path to a third win in four games.
Darragh McCarthy’s free was all that separated the sides at half-time (1-12 to 1-11), with Jake Morris’s fourth minute goal for the hosts having been cancelled out at the other end by Brian Hayes as many minutes later.
The in-form McCarthy (0-10) helped the Rebels to fall four points behind early in the second-half, but through the scores of Patrick Horgan, Diarmuid Healy and Darragh Fitzgibbon, who finished with 0-11, they levelled things up.
However, the home side edged three ahead again before Walsh's shot found the Cork net in the 58th minute and, from there, Tipp were able to see out the result which has them two points ahead of Kilkenny and Galway ahead of tomorrow’s pending games.
