Mayo bagged two crucial points after a hard fought 0-12 to 0-10 win against Tyrone in Castlebar this afternoon.
Ryan O’Donoghue (free) and Fergal Boland sent over the scores late on as Kevin McStay’s men were made to earn their first victory of this year’s Allianz League Division 1 campaign.
It was Tyrone that edged a 0-5 to 0-4 lead at the break after points from Mark Bradley and Eoin McElholm in the closing stages of the first-half.
The sides would be level twice more after the resumption ahead of a Darren McCurry free being backed up by goalkeeper Niall Morgan’s point from play making it 0-9 to 0-7 in favour of the Red Hands.
The hosts battled back to eventually level via Boland with 10 minutes left and they’d have their noses in front when Frank Irwin sent over three minutes later.
Another McCurry free tied things up for Malachy O’Rourke’s side but O’Donoghue would erase it with a close range free at the other end before Boland provided what proved the insurance point for the Westerners.
