UL are Fitzgibbon Cup champions for the third time in four years after seeing off DCU by 0-23 to 1-15 at the Connacht Centre of Excellence this afternoon.
Tipperary star Gearoid O’Connor struck 0-10 for the Limerick students as they regained the title they lost to Mary Immaculate College, Limerick 12 months ago.
The victors edged a 0-9 to 0-8 lead at half-time before nailing the first five points of the second-half to take control, with the O’Connor and Jack Leahy to the fore for them.
Aidan O’Connor and Diarmuid Hanniffy stretched the UL lead further from there and, while Cathal Berine bagged a late goal for DCU, it’d be too little, too late for them as the Limerick college triumphed to their ninth Fitzgibbon Cup success after an impressive display in Bekan.
