Diarmuid Ryan will miss the start of Clare’s Allianz Hurling League defence.

Clare FM is reporting that the Cratloe clubman, who helped the Banner to an Allianz League and All-Ireland SHC double last year, has been ruled out of the early rounds after injuring his foot in training. Conor Cleary, who was the first Miltown Malbay man to play in an All-Ireland senior final since 1934 last year, is also set to miss the opening round against Kilkenny with a shoulder injury.

Clare manager Brian Lohan has drafted four new players into his squad – Ian McNamara (Killanena), Daithí Lohan (Wolfe Tones, Shannon), Shane Woods (Inagh/Kilnamona) and Rian Considine (Cratloe) – following the retirements of Sixmilebridge’s Séadna Morey and Paul Flanagan of Ballyea.
