Naomh Padraig, Muff (Donegal) will play An Cheathrú Rua (Galway) in Saturday week’s All-Ireland club junior football championship final after coming through in a penalty shootout against Cork’s Kilmurray.
After 80 minutes couldn’t separate the sides (1-13 to 2-10), it went to spot kicks at Parnell Park where the Donegal champions held their nerve to prevail 3-1 and advance towards the Croke Park decider on January 25th.
Lawrence Aisling’s goal saw Kilmurray hitting the front in the 11th minute and eventually taking in a 1-3 to 0-4 half-time lead.
A brace of points each from Johnny Toye and Caolan McColgan saw Naomh Padraig retake the lead in the third quarter and, after they fell behind again, it took Kevin Lynch’s late point to force extra time for the Tir Chonaill men with the scoreboard reading 1-7 to 0-10 at the full-time whistle.
The Cork champions found the net again in extra time and seemingly had one foot in the final before Muff hit the front late on with a Kevin Lynch penalty and it’d take a Denis O’Mullane point at the death to force penalties for Kilmurray where they’d eventually bow out in agonising fashion.
