Mayo giants Castlebar Mitchels have appointed clubman Kevin Filan as their new senior football manager.
Filan replaces his former team-mates Barry Moran and Neil Lydon, who stepped down as joint-managers recently. The duo were three years at the helm, during which Mitchels won two Leagues, but failed to add to the town club's 31 SFC titles, despite reaching the knockout stages each year. They lost to two-in-a-row champions Ballina in this year’s quarter-final.
Filan has managed teams from U14 level upwards in the club, and led the U21s to a county title last year.
“As a club, we wish Kevin and his team the very best for the year ahead. We will give them full support and backing and wish them success in the year ahead,” the Mitchels executive said in a statement.
