Cross' break with tradition with Lennon appointment

Kilkerley Emmets Shane Lennon

Former Louth star Shane Lennon is the new Crossmaglen senior football manager.

The Kilkerley Emmets clubman, who is also a former Louth GAA Games Development Officer, becomes the first ‘outsider’ to manage Armagh’s most decorated and famous football club. He will be assisted by former Dublin minor Gerry Seaver.

“Congratulations Shane & Gerry and we wish you every success in your new roles,” the club said in a Facebook post.

Lennon takes over from Anthony Cunningham who stepped down in October after two years at the helm, winning the Gerry Fagan Cup in his first year in charge and reaching this year’s semi-final, which they lost to Clann Éireann.

Crossmaglen’s season was overshadowed by Caolan Finnegan’s sad passing from an aggressive form of brain cancer in August. The former Armagh player was only 20.
