A GAA club on the Inishowen Peninsula has been left devastated by the passing of a rising football star in a tragic road accident.

Tiernan Doherty-Kelly died following a single-vehicle collision near Buncrana in the early hours of Sunday morning. The 18-year-old was a talented GAA and soccer player with CLG Charn Domhnaigh (Carndonagh) and Carndonagh FC respectively. Poignantly, he had lined out for Carndonagh in their U21FC ‘B’ semi-final defeat to Burt just a week previously.

Club members gathered yesterday afternoon as they struggled to come to terms with their terrible loss.

A post on the CLG Charn Domhnaigh Facebook page read: "After the heartbreaking news this morning, upstairs in Foden will be open at 3pm for our players, club members and the wider community of Carn to come together for a cuppa and a chat."
