Kilcoo boss Karl Lacey admits Conor Laverty has given him a selection headache ahead of the Ulster club SFC semi-final against either Erne Gaels or Scotstown.

The 38-year-old Down manager made a big impact after coming off the bench in the final quarter of the Magpies’ quarter-final win over Crosserlough last Saturday evening, after which Lacey told reporters: “For us, it always comes back to training, and Conor has been training really, really well for us.

“He is just that competitor, he’s Kilcoo through and through, and if there is anybody that didn’t want to lose tonight, then it was Conor.

“He came into the game at the right time, he made a real difference – intelligence is probably the right thing to use at that stage of the game.

“The way he can draw the right frees, play the wee pass into Paul Devlin, the weight of it, everything like that, he just does it so cleverly.”

The 2012 Donegal All-Ireland SFC winning centre back added: “Conor has put his hand up and has put us under pressure now for the next two weeks, and if he keeps training like that, he will maybe bring a few other men with him as well, and that’s what we need – men to keep the head down and work harder again.”
