St Loman’s Mullingar were in impressive form as they cruised into the last eight of the Leinster club senior football championship with a 2-16 to 2-4 victory over Meath champions Dunshaughlin in Navan.

Fola Ayorinde and Danny McCartan struck the goals for the back-to-back Westmeath SFC winners as they proved too strong for their opponents who trailed by 1-9 to 1-1 at the halfway stage.

Matthew Costello’s goal on 24 minutes looked to bring Dunshaughlin back into this provincial opener, but Ayorinde blasted to their net four minutes later and he followed it up with a point to leave the Mullingar men up by eight at the interval.

Nine minutes into the restart and McCartan raised another green flag for the visitors, which put the margin at 10, meaning a Jared Rushe goal at the other end would only end up being in vain for Richie Kealy's side.

In Ardee, Louth champions St Mary’s saw off Longford counterparts Abbeylara by 3-14 to 2-8 to progress through to the Leinster quarter-finals.

Goals from Cathal Gilligan and Ciaran Scanlon saw Abbeylara square things up by the halfway stage (1-6 to 2-3), but Kian Moran’s points sent the hosts ahead again early in the second-half and the goals of Tom Jackson and Karl Faulkner put them on the path to a date against Carlow’s Rathvilly next weekend.

Meanwhile, Tinahely made their goals count in a 2-5 to 0-10 win over Portarlington at Laois Hire O'Moore Park this afternoon.

The Wicklow champions were trailing 0-4 to 0-1 when Matthew Ging made the most of some superb build up play to hammer into the home side’s net in the 12th minute.

Six minutes later and Eoin Darcy would rifle in Tinahely's second goal to usher them towards a 2-3 to 0-6 half-time lead.

Portarlington would get it level with 15 minutes remaining, but Darcy’s free nudged the men from the Garden County ahead again and they were able to hold on for a quarter-final date with Tullamore next weekend.
