St Martin’s claimed their first Wexford senior hurling championship title since 2019 after battling past St Anne's Rathangan to a 1-21 to 0-19 victory at Chadwicks Wexford Park this afternoon.
Barry O’Connor’s goal midway through the second-half proved key for Daithi Hayes’s side as they saw off a tough challenge from their Rathangan counterparts to collect their club’s fifth Dr RJ Bowe Cup.
The points of Jake Firman, Darren Codd (2) and Jack O’Connor late in the first-half were what saw St Martin’s lead by 0-10 to 0-6 when the sides went in at the break.
Kyle Firman stretched the lead for his side before St Anne’s battle back with scores via Kyle Kennedy (2) and Darragh Furlong to narrow their deficit down to two.
Then came the would-be winners’ goal on 45 minutes which saw O’Connor taking full advantage of a scramble in the St Anne’s goalmouth.
From there, St Martin’s were able to see out the victory as Rory O’Connor (3, 2 frees) and Furlong kept the scoreboard ticking over for them until the last whistle.
