Coolera-Strandhill retained their Sligo senior football championship crown this afternoon thanks to a 0-8 to 0-7 win over St Molaise Gaels at Markievicz Park.
After the sides couldn’t be separated last weekend, another tight encounter ensued here with the holders taking in a 0-5 to 0-3 lead at half-time.
A couple of Alan McLoughlin frees brought St Molaise Gaels level four minutes into the second-half and he’d land another in the 38th minute to put them in front for the first time in this replay decider.
Niall Murphy (free) and Peter Laffey raised white flags to steer Coolera-Strandhill back into the lead on 48 minutes, and they wouldn’t look back from there as another from skipper Laffey late on proved the insurance score with McLoughlin’s ‘45’ at the other end leaving the Gaels one short.
