Roscommon’s 2025 hopes have been boosted by the news that Ciaráin Murtagh is set to rejoin Davy Burke’s squad.

The Roscommon Herald is reporting that the St Faithleach’s attacker is to make a comeback after featuring for Connacht in last weekend’s revived interprovincial series at Croke Park which road-tested the Football Review Committee’s rule enhancements. Ciaráin’s brother Diarmuid scored a goal against Ulster in Saturday’s final which Connacht lost on penalties.

Murtagh, who was handed his senior debut by John Evans in 2014, last played for the Rossies in 2023. His expected return comes after Slaughtneil manager Mark Doran – who was tipped for the vacant Derry manager’s job – was recruited by the Rossies as a coach ahead of the new season.
