Two second-half goals were enough for Crosserlough to clinch their first senior football championship title since 2020 as they saw off Ramor United by 2-6 to 0-4 in stormy conditions at Kingspan Breffni.

The highly anticipated showdown between these two teams didn’t materialise in the end as Storm Ashley made the playing conditions difficult to say the least, but Crosserlough won’t be dwelling on that having collected their 11th senior championship crown this evening.

Emmett Boylan had them up and running with a pointed free inside the opening minute before Matthew Smith responded in kind for the Virginia men three minutes later.

It’d be nearly a quarter of an hour before Brandon Boylan nudged Crosserlough ahead again from a free ahead of Cathal Maguire’s effort levelling matters as the sides went in all square at the break on 0-2 apiece.

Emmett Boylan and Smith (free) raised white flags again in the third quarter and James Smith would nudge the 2020 champions ahead before they landed the first hammer blow. It saw ‘Man of the Match’ Conor Rehill’s long ball towards James Smith end up in Ramor’s net, making it 1-4 to 0-3 with seven minutes left in normal time.

Substitute Stephen Smith would tack on the Kilnaleck side’s fifth point in the very next attack and, after Ramor responded with a James Bradley free, former Cavan forward Smith wouldn’t miss the chance to wrap it up in injury-time with a soccer-style goal which sends the coveted Oliver Plunkett Cup back to Dr Plunkett Park for the first time in four years.
