Colm Murphy returns to Australia today after giving a man of the match performance for Portarlington in their Laois SFC final victory over Portlaoise on Sunday.

Murphy, along with Robbie Pigott and Paddy O’Sullivan, came home to help the Offaly-border club to a fourth title in five years. Indeed, Murphy also appeared off the bench in Portarlington’s semi-final win over Graiguecullen.

“Absolutely (worth the trip home), it's a privilege to play with the lads,” the corner forward and scorer of 1-6 told Clubber.

“Obviously, we've won a couple before but I think this is the sweetest one yet. The lads were written off all year, they trained hard, like Pat (Roe, manager) said they were going to peak in September-October, and I think in the last couple of weeks we've seen that.

“I'm doing a bit of farm work at the minute (in Australia) so that's keeping me fit, but no, Andrew Evans had given me a bit of a programme the last couple of weeks just to try get back up to speed. Anyway, just to help the lads, but they were flying it so it was easy just to get back up to speed a bit.”
