John McGrath struck for 1-13 as Loughmore-Castleiney defeated Toomevara by 2-19 to 1-17 in Thurles to capture their fifth Tipperary senior hurling championship crown.
Having fought back to edge a 0-12 to 0-10 lead at the half, Loughmore-Castleiney would eventually extend it to four before netting twice in the closing minutes to secure their second Dan Breen Cup success in four years.
Robbie Quirke would trim Toomevara’s deficit down to two points ahead of substitute Paul McCahey being fed through by O’Connell to lash in a 57th minute goal for Loughmore.
That strike would be cancelled out by a brilliantly finished Conor O’Meara goal two minutes later, but McGrath would have the final say with a goal completing his impressive haul for the afternoon and sealing his side's fifth SHC’s success in the process.
