Meath’s football heroes from 1999 are set to be honoured at Croke Park this afternoon ahead of the All-Ireland SFC final between Armagh and Galway (throw-in 3.30pm).
This year marks 25 years since the Royals defeated Cork by 1-11 to 1-8 before a 63,276 crowd at headquarters to record their county’s seventh Sam Maguire Cup success and second of the decade.
Captained by Graham Geraghty, Sean Boylan’s men recovered from the double blow of a missed penalty and concession of Joe Kavanagh goal to go on and defeat the Rebels by three points.
At 2.30pm this afternoon, the last Meath side to bring Sam Maguire back to the Banks of the Boyne will be honoured at Croker as the Jubilee team on the biggest date on the football calendar.
