Gardaí in Waterford have launched an investigation into a mass brawl which resulted in an U15 Division 1 hurling championship match being abandoned.

The match between Ballygunner and  Na Risigh in Mount Sion on Monday evening was abandoned in the second half following an altercation involving players, mentors and supporters. Footage of the incident has been widely shared on social media.

Bord na nÓg Port Lairge and Waterford GAA will also carry out their own investigation on receipt of the referee's report.

An alleged assault during the brawl is believed to be the focus of the Garda investigation.
