Kieran McGeeney has pleaded with Armagh supporters to 'leave the players alone' ahead of the All-Ireland SFC final.

Football fever is sweeping the Orchard County as it prepares for its first Sam Maguire Cup decider in 21 years against Galway on Sunday week.

“We want our county to enjoy the build-up and the next two weeks to the All Ireland final," the Armagh manager told the media after the semi-final win over Kerry.

“The supporters are entitled to do it. That’s the whole point of sport and the spectacle and the occasion. I want them to do that. But I want them to leave players alone and let them do their bit.

“That bit of hype is going to be hard to handle but the bit inside won’t.”

McGeeney also tipped attacking coach Kieran Donaghy to manage his native Kingdom some day.

“When I asked him in, it was a tough ask for him. There’s no doubt Kieran Donaghy will go back to Kerry in his day and he’ll do a fantastic job there," he predicted.

“Hopefully he has learned a bit. We have definitely learned a lot from him.”
