Laois moved into the semi-finals of the Tailteann Cup after seeing off Kildare by 2-11 to 0-12 in Tullamore this afternoon.

Goals from ace attacker Mark Barry and Evan O’Carroll made the difference for the O’Moore men in this one as they sent their neighbours packing and set-up a last four date against Antrim next weekend.

Kildare had led by 0-3 to 0-2 when Justin McNulty’s side were awarded a penalty in the 18th minute which Barry expertly tucked away.

The points of Kevin Feely and Darragh Kirwan ushered the Lilywhites in front again, but Laois got it level come the break (1-4 to 0-7) thanks to points from Barry and Conor Heffernan before going on to hit the first four points of the resumption.

A couple of Shane Farrell frees helped Kildare trim their deficit back down to two points ahead of O’Carroll’s goal in 57th minute leaving their opponents with one foot in the semis, and two placed balls from Killian Roche down the home stretch ensured the O’Moore men’s progression.

With Antrim having played both Down in the Ulster SFC and Sligo in the Tailteann Cup group stages, and no other possible repeat pairings, it means that Monday morning’s planned draw for the semi-finals is no longer necessary.

Down play Sligo and Antrim now face Laois in the last four to see which team progresses through to the competition’s final, with the CCCC to confirm fixture details on Monday.
