Tipp boss Kelly departs after Tailteann Cup defeat to Limerick

Tipperary football manager Paul Kelly has stepped down from his role following his team’s Tailteann Cup exit this evening.

The Premier men went down to neighbours Limerick on a 1-18 to 1-10 scoreline at Rathkeale where defeat at the competition’s preliminary quarter-final stage spelled an end to the visitors’ season.

After a shaky start to the derby clash, Paudie Feehan’s goal three minutes before half-time saw Tipp trailing by just a point (0-8 to 1-4) when the sides went in at the break, but Limerick moved five clear in the second-half before Emmet Rigter's late goal ensured they’d be in Monday morning’s quarter-final draw.

Following the defeat, Kelly confirmed his decision to vacate his post with Tipperary county board thanking him with the below post on social media.

It comes less than a year after taking the job which saw the Thomas Davis clubman succeeding 2020 Munster SFC winning manager David Power on a three-year term back in November.
