Mayo claimed their second consecutive win in the group stages of the All-Ireland SFC after edging Roscommon by 2-14 to 1-15 at Dr Hyde Park this evening.

Goals from Ryan O’Donoghue (penalty) and Donnacha McHugh in the second-half proved key for Kevin McStay’s men as they defeated the Rossies for the third time this year.

The scoreboard read 0-8 apiece at the end of an airtight first-half before points from Cillian O’Connor and O’Donoghue created some daylight for the visitors.

A Conor Carroll ‘45’ put the minimum in it again prior to Jordan Flynn swinging over and the leaders then winning a 55th minute penalty which O’Donoghue dispatched.

McHugh’s goal eight minutes later looked to settle the issue for Mayo but their neighbours would net a Conor Cox penalty to keep the heat on before finishing two points short in the end.

The results mark Mayo’s sixth consecutive championship win at Dr Hyde Park, progressing them into the knock-out stages while Roscommon will now need a result against Cavan in their final group game if they are to have a chance of reaching the preliminary quarter-finals.
